AI Cannot Handle This
The line between AI help and human help.
AI is NOT equipped to handle mental health crises. This is not a limitation we're working on — it's a fundamental boundary. Here's why:
- AI cannot assess risk. It cannot tell if you're in immediate danger. A trained crisis counselor can.
- AI cannot call for help. If you need emergency services, AI cannot dispatch them. A hotline can.
- AI cannot provide the human connection that saves lives. In a crisis, knowing a real person cares matters. AI's empathy is simulated.
- AI can say the wrong thing. AI responses are generated by patterns, not clinical training. In a crisis, the wrong response can be dangerous.
- AI conversations may not be private. Your crisis disclosure might be stored and reviewed. Crisis hotlines are legally confidential.
The hard rule: If you or someone you know is in immediate danger, thinking about suicide or self-harm, or experiencing a psychiatric emergency — close the AI, and call 988 or 911. This is not negotiable.
