Hourly billing punishes you for being fast.
Here's the paradox: you invested time learning AI tools so you could work faster. But if you bill hourly, working faster means earning less. A project that used to take 20 hours at $50/hr ($1,000) now takes 5 hours. Same rate means you just took a 75% pay cut for being more efficient.

The three models that work:
Three pricing models that actually work.
1. Project-based pricing. Quote a flat fee for the entire deliverable. "This website redesign is $5,000." The client knows their total cost. You keep every dollar you save through efficiency. If AI helps you finish in half the time, your effective hourly rate doubles.
2. Value-based pricing. Price based on the impact your work creates. If your email campaign will generate $50,000 in revenue for the client, charging $5,000 is a bargain — and it's 10x what you'd earn billing hourly. This requires understanding the client's business and being able to articulate the ROI.
3. Retainer pricing. Monthly fixed fee for ongoing work. "I'll handle all your content needs for $3,000/month." This gives you predictable income and lets you batch-process work efficiently. AI makes retainers incredibly profitable because you can serve more clients in the same number of hours.
