5. Culture
This is where most AI initiatives actually die. Not technology, not budget, not data. Culture. If your organization punishes failure, hoards information, or treats new tools as threats, no amount of infrastructure will save your AI program.
What to evaluate: Does leadership talk about AI as a tool or as a threat? Are employees afraid that AI will replace their jobs? Is there a culture of experimentation or does every project need a guaranteed ROI before it starts? Do teams share data and insights or protect their territory?
A Self-Assessment You Can Run This Week
Score each dimension from zero to four. Zero means nonexistent. One means early stage. Two means developing. Three means capable. Four means advanced.
Data Infrastructure: Can you get clean data to a model within one week? Score your data accessibility, quality, and pipeline maturity.
Team Capability: Does your team have hands-on AI experience? Score based on actual building experience, not certifications.
Process Maturity: Are your workflows documented and measured? Score based on how well you could hand a process to an AI system today.

Here is the truth that no assessment framework will tell you: the best predictor of AI readiness is whether your organization has already started using AI in small ways. Not pilots.
